Marlborough Lines

Based in sunny Blenheim, Marlborough Lines Limited manages the Marlborough region’s electricity network, distributing energy across the top of the South Island.

A trust holds the shares in the company on behalf of more than 26,000 beneficiaries. That number represents installations connected to the network: meaning, both current and future electricity users in the Marlborough region.

That’s a fair few people to take care of! And that’s where UpShift came in.

While we had a website already, it wasn’t serving our needs. The site needed a new look, and easier, more efficient ways for customers to get the support or information they required.”

MLL approached us to create a website that would better engage with their community, connect them to the information and support they needed more efficiently, and reflect MLL’s brand culture.

UpShift’s Project Manager Prapti Mane worked with Creative Director Matt Robinson to develop a design proposal, for a site built using Squarespace.

Squarespace is a great platform to work with because it’s simple and it’s versatile, It gives UpShift a lot of flexibility and creative room, but it also delivers a website that the client can ultimately manage themselves.”

The proposed site would address MLL’s need to tell their story in a simple, visually appealing way, as well as ensuring easy access to information and support.

I believe in not over-complicating things, if you go to a website and it has lots of moving parts, multiple menus, all that, that’s not easy for the consumer. Working with UpShift gave us opportunity to review our site’s content, and evaluate how to make things more efficient, as well as how best to tell our story.”

Part of that story is MLL’s connection with and immersion in the local community, playing a vital role in the infrastructure the region requires to flourish.

In order to better engage with these consumers, MLL requested that UpShift build a series of forms on the website, allowing efficient communication. The introduction of forms, and ability for customers to upload relevant documents to their enquiry was done by connecting Squarespace with Wufoo, an online form builder.

“I believe in not over-complicating things, if you go to a website and it has lots of moving parts, multiple menus, all that, that’s not easy for the consumer. Working with UpShift gave us opportunity to review our site’s content, and evaluate how to make things more efficient, as well as how best to tell our story.

The forms have made a big difference to our customer service, Optimising the site for mobile has increased accessibility as well.

Overall, the new site means people now have simpler, quicker access to the information they need, and the community can learn about MLL’s journey and vision of “Energising Marlborough’s Future.”
